Charlie's 3 month portrait and the Chaffin grandkids

While we were in Atlanta we took care of getting Charlie's 3 month portrait and took a picture of all the kids. I am so glad we did this and hope to start a new tradition for our family. Enjoy!

The ATL and Brady's trip to Chi-town

This past month has been full! We spent a week in Atlanta visiting my family and seeing as many friends as possible. Following this trip, my nephew Brady visited Chicago with my mom. Mom brought Cooper to NY when he was 6, so she promised any grand kid that wants to take a trip at 6 she would take them.
Our trip to Atlanta started with just taking it easy at my parent's. On Friday, we went to see my brother, my grandmother and then met all of my siblings at my sister's house for dinner. Saturday started with a visit to my cousin Allison and Mark's, who had a baby on March 21st. It was nice to put the babies together as well as see my aunt, uncle and cousin Meredith. For lunch, we met our friends Jessica, Katie and Robbie. Jessica and Katie taught with me in Nashville. Jessica now lives in Virginia Highlands in Atlanta and Katie and Robbie drove over to Atlanta from Alabama so they could see us and meet Charlie. It was great to catch up with them and remember our days starting out as teachers together.
That evening we went to Jennifer and Shane's to see her new baby, Sam, and her 2 year old Madelyn. We had a nice time hanging out with the Orrs and seeing Kim and meeting her new friend, "Big Charlie" as Madelyn called him. Sunday we had a nice lunch with the family at my parents as well as my Uncle Ed and Aunt Eva. My trip ended with a wonderful dinner with my 9th grade english teacher, Nancy Ward. It was nice to sit down and catch her up on the past few years. It was great to share with everyone Charlie and what a wonderful baby he is.
Tuesday we flew back to Chicago with Mom and Brady. We visited Navy Pier, took a boat tour on the Seadog, the Chicago Children's Museum, went to the Lincoln Park Zoo and went bowling (Brady beat me in both games). We spent their last day down by the lake at museum campus to tour the planetarium and then Brady and Bob went to the Field Museum to see the Pirate Exhibit. Unfortunately, the exhibit wasn't as kid friendly as we had hoped.
I loved having Brady here. It was fun to have a boy in the house to see how much fun we will keep having as Charlie grows up. It also allowed me to practice my Guitar Hero skills. We ended every night with a face off on Guitar Hero. I can't remember the last time we played our Wii, so I was very glad to put it to use.
Things keep getting better and better. Charlie is the best baby! We tossed our "schedule" out the window after our trip to Atlanta, but we are getting back on track. I just joined "Fit Mamas" which is a stroller exercise class 3 days a week. My first class was yesterday and it was nice to meet other moms and get some exercise. It really is amazing how much better my day feels by starting it right. Bob is doing well. Just cruising along.
August should be a slow but relaxing month for us. We hope to take advantage of the rest of the summer and hopefully take Charlie to his first Cubs game. It's hard to believe Charlie will be 4 months on Saturday.
Enjoy the pics - there is a ton of them!

When we arrived from the airport, Caren, Cooper and Brady were waiting to meet Charlie. Cooper was so tired, but still excited!

Father's Day, Pool Days and 3 Month Pictures

June and July have been a lot of fun so far. We are still adjusting to Charlie's ever changing days. He has started on an earlier bedtime, but this means I am getting up in the middle of the night again. Hopefully, this will go away soon!
My parents visited for Father's Day and we had a nice brunch with Bob's family, followed by a walk down by the Museum's and the lake. It was nice to spend a father's day with my Dad. It has been at least 4 years since I have spent a Father's Day with him. Plus, he was pretty excited to spend it with his new grandson.
I loved celebrating Bob's first Father's Day. We got him a new phone, "Dad" clothes, as well as some new duds for work. I am very lucky to have Bob and it is such a thrill watching him as a Dad.
I know I always talk about the weather, but it's a big deal for me. The winter we experienced was the worst winter I have ever experienced. I didn't know I could get the winter blues until we moved here. The spring was chilly. Now, Bob will tell me that this is how spring is supposed to be. He thinks the southeast skips over spring and goes straight to summer, but come on! I need at least 70s and 60s not 60s and 50s. Now we are in the midst of July and yesterday it was 60 degrees. We have had some nice days, but I am ready for a stretch of nice days that last until October.
When it's nice, we like to head over to Bob's parents and hang out at their building's pool. It's a great set up with gazebos that allow Charlie to stay in the shade and plenty of sun so I can try and look human and not like a character in Twilight. We have put Charlie in the pool just to get his legs in the water. He loves to watch the water move around and Bob loves getting him in with him. I am sure my son will learn to swim before I do.
All in all, the past 3 months have been great. Charlie is starting to show more emotions - especially his temper. My sweet, "he never cries" baby is learning how to scream to let his voice be heard. He has even mastered his pouty face. His lower lip rolls out and he tilts his head at you. It's amazing seeing him learn these reactions and the reactions he gets from them. He is reaching for things and grabbing hold of what he can. He hates being on his tummy, so we have to take tummy time in small doses. His laugh is becoming more and more a belly laugh. Although, this inevitably turns into hiccups. It's terrible (but so cute) to watch him try and laugh through the hiccups.
Next week we head to Atlanta. I am so excited to see my nieces and nephews!!!! I can't wait to see them with Charlie and add him to the amazing Chaffin grandkid mix. We will also get to see some friends, my grandmother and hopefully as much of my extended family as possible. Charlie has a second cousin to meet that is 2 weeks older, Elizabeth Grace, and his buddy Sam, who is 2 months older. I am looking forward to seeing him with other babies.
Hope you enjoy our latest pics!
